Mark your calendars for one of our favorite Bridal Events of the year!

The US Grant’s Wedding Showcase keeps getting better and better. If you are looking for a red carpet experience in the wedding world, don’t miss this event.  It is San Diego’s most exclusive bridal showcase full of inspiration, top notch professional vendors, fashion and entertainment.  We look forward to it every year and can’t wait to see what 2012 has in store.

Liz Beck Events will be showcasing for a third year and would love to have you come by and say hi.

When: Sunday, March 4, 2012 12-4pm

Where: The US Grant Hotel

326 Broadway • San Diego, CA 92101

What:  Love, etc* will explore the story of love, the various elements it takes to create a fantasy wedding and the journey of a heart’s desire. Brides-to-be will be treated to three dramatic levels from the innocence of the first date, to the sultriness of dating, and culminating with the heart-throbbing exhilarations captured on the wedding day.

Spanning three floors, each level will provide brides and guests with a chance to discover not only THE US GRANT’s most stunning wedding venues, but also engage with more than 60 of Southern California’s most sought-after wedding vendors in a luxurious and personal setting.  Presented as a journey from ‘First Date’ to ‘I do’, our *etc includes the photographers, florists, event planners, entertainers, cake creators and the many more specialists who will help craft your desires into a reality.

How: Tickets are $20 and a portion of the proceeds directly benefits the American Heart Association & San Diego’s Go Red for Women Campaign.

We hope to see you there!

When you hear the word “rose,” what comes to mind?  If it is a tightly wrapped overlapping of uniformly-shaped petals, this post is for you.

I have never considered myself a rose kind of gal but that all changed when I met the modern garden rose.  Often mistaken for peonies, garden roses have a very similar cup shape and can bloom to be about the same size as the big, fluffy, larger-than-life peony.  The good news, garden roses are available year round which makes them a great alternative for those brides wanting the romantic and feathery look of the peony.  Specifically, The David Austin Garden Rose has long been thought of as the wedding flower of choice when peonies are not in season.

Of course, I like to think of garden roses as more than just a peony replacement.  They have a shape, scent, texture and old world look that is all their own.

Can you tell me that Renoir was not envisioning these old world blooms when painting Bouquet of Roses?

A little history of the David Austin Garden Rose:

Development started in the 1960s by David Austin of Shropshire, England, who wanted to rekindle interest in Old Garden Roses by hybridizing them with modern hybrid teas and floribundas. The idea was to create a
new group of roses that featured blooms with old-fashioned shapes and fragrances, evocative of classic gallica, alba and “damask” roses, but with modern repeat-blooming characteristics and the larger modern colour range as well.

There is no single system of classification for garden roses. In general, however, roses are placed in one of three main groups: Wild, Old Garden, and Modern Garden roses.  Although not officially recognized as a separate class of roses by any established rose authority, English (aka David Austin) roses are often set aside as such by consumers and retailers alike.

Iris and Frank were married at Scripps Seaside Forum this past September.  I had the privilege of working with them for the year leading up to their wedding.  From the very beginning, we knew we were designing an event that would incorporate both Iris’s modern whimsy AND Frank’s traditional sophistication.  Beyond a beautiful wedding, Frank and Iris wanted to create a warm atmosphere that would share who they are with their friends and family.  From the bold colors and spherical shapes to the customized puzzle and sprinkles cupcakes, their wedding was as playful as it was elegant.  Congratulations Frank and Iris!

We hope you enjoy the snapshot of their day!

Thank you to Tim Otto Photography for the images.

One of the main reasons Frank and Iris selected Scripps Seaside Forum as their venue was for the  panoramic views which we did not want to obstruct with a traditional altar.  Rather, Jennifer Cole Florals created a white petal path including the circle altar of petals.  Large silver lanterns framed the aisle and were accented with yellow and white pomander balls.  The bride and groom personalized the content of their ceremony booklet which guests took home.

The custom dance floor took center stage with guest tables surrounding it.  Midnight blue Isabella lines draped each of the tables in a decadent rosette appliqué.  The room itself was flanked in a sheer white backdrop allowing the complimentary colors to pop.

Guests were treated to a “Peach Whellini” during the reception followed by a Sprinkle’s cupcake with a carton of milk.  Their patterned cake was topped with a pair of penguins.  You would have had to have been a guest to understand why but Iris did share the story!

As the sun went down, the room took on an entirely new atmosphere as each of the centerpieces glowed with a soft blue light.  Accent lighting softened the room what the custom capiz shell chandelier adorned the patio.  Come the end of the evening, Frank and Iris were swept away in a vintage 1956 Rolls Royce.  A perfect end to a perfect day!

“Dear Liz,

Thank you so much for making our dream wedding come true!  The day was amazing, unforgettable and so smooth.  We both had an incredible time and still reminisce about all of the little details.  Our family and friends had endless compliments, many of which were that it was the most beautiful wedding they had been to.  It was truly a spectacular day!  We really enjoyed working with you all the way through.  You were always cheerful and made us laugh while reassuring us that everything would come together…  and it did!  Thank you for being patient with us.  I’m so happy we were both involved in the planning because it was an experience all on it’s own.  It definitely would not have been so enjoyable if we had not worked with you.  Thank You!

Love, Iris and Frank”

I apologize my delayed start to the blog in 2012.  Thanks for waiting for me!  We are cruising right along in a year that is already moving and shaking.  We have many exciting things lined up here at LBE that are rolling out in the upcoming weeks and months.  I thought I would use my first post of the year to tell a little about some of the things I am looking forward to in 2012.

Cheers 2012!

1. “EVENTing the iPad” at The Special Event: The Special Event is the largest international event industry convention in the world and this year it will be in Tampa, Florida.  I have the great honor to teach a classroom session incorporating the iPad into the event industry.   Sara France of Sara France Photography and I are collaborating on a presentation for  small business owners in the event industry on how to advance their efficiency and productivity by integrating the iPad into their daily work flow.  Those who know me know that I LOVE my iPad and use it for everything I can. It has truly transformed my company and I am so excited to share my experience with others.

2. Destination:   This year we have a growing number of traveling couples bringing their guests out to one of the top wedding destination cities, San Diego!  Our destination couples are often looking for coordinating events and activities to engage their family and friends before and after the big day.  Once I get to know my couples, I love working with them to customize their entire experience in San Diego.  It truly is the Finest City and I’m proud to share it.

We not only have destination weddings coming to San Diego, we are also traveling more this year.  Working with my San Diego couples that are planning a destination wedding outside of Southern California is such a treat.  New venues and new cities inspire me!

3. Website Revive:  Everyone has been busy at work dusting off the old and bringing in the new on the LBE Website and the Bustle Blog.  It has taken a lot of time (as it always does) but I am starting to fall in love with it and I am excited to share it with you.

4. New Spaces and Place: We have been spending a lot of time sourcing new venues for ceremonies, receptions and intimate parties.  A lot of these locations are very unique and offer a new perspective on the standard setting.  The Bustle Blog will keep you posted on our findings…

5. Tangerine Tango: According to Pantone, the color of the year is Tangerine Tango and I love it!  This perfect blend of red and yellow is associated with warmth, excitement and fun times.  Sounds like a wedding to me.

6. Gowns:  Catherine’s gown brought a new meaning to princess last year at the Royal wedding.   We are starting to see a lot of lace as well as many variations of the neckline and sleeve length.  For those of you Twilight fans, I have to say that I fell in love with Bella’s Carolina Herrera gown (shown above) which also dons long sleeves.  Both examples show that a modest gown can still be very sexy!

There are far more things to share but that is what the Bustle Blog is for.  In the meantime, we are almost finished gathering images from our 2011 weddings which we will be posting soon.

Happy 2012…  Can’t wait to see what is in store!
