The Save the Date is the first peek of your wedding that guests will receive and it certainly sets the tone for everything that follows.  There are all sorts of creative ideas out there from flip books to video but for today, I wanted to share something a little more traditional.  Letterpress printing gives the rich texture of light and shadow created by these clean-walled impressions giving it its unique beauty.  While the art of this relief printing is classic, the customization of color and font allow for a variety of personalized looks.

I have been loving so much of what I have been seeing from the SMOCK letterpress wedding line.  Their Save the Dates are part of their overall wedding stationery suite which coordinates invitations as well as all reception stationery.  Their use of the timeless letterpress print is often combined with contemporary design and beautiful color.

Monique Lhuillier‘s second round of invitations has arrived at the LBE studio!  The classic elegance with a modern twist has been maintained in her second edition of wedding stationery.  True to her fashion roots, the fine paper collection was inspired by Lhuillier’s bridal fashions and her home collections.  Just as she uses the most beautiful fabrics, laces and accents in her gowns, her invitations are crafted with the finest papers, ribbons and printing processes.

Give us a call or email to schedule a time to come by the studio to see the Monique Lhullier line and the other fine stationery that we carry at Liz Beck Events.

We were one of the few bridal boutiques selected to carry the exclusive Monique Lhuillier Invitation Suite when it was first released in 2009.  The timeless elegance, delicate detail and quality have made it a favorite of our couples for the past few years.  We have been eagerly anticipating the 2011-2012 release of the updated designs and it does not disappoint.  We have found brilliant texture and subtle color to enhance the already luxurious invitations.

LETTERPRESS…  That one word makes me smile!  There is nothing quite like the texture and elegance of the oldest printing process on the planet, especially when it is combined with fabulous design.  In researching letterpress options, we ventured upon smock. and immediately fell in love with their product and passion for the art of letterpress.  They have an incredible line of exquisite wedding stationery including invitations and save the dates but being as I am in FULL Holiday mode, I wanted to share some of their everyday line.

Sumptuous stationery is the perfect stocking stuffer or hostess gift for the holidays.  I love receiving them almost as much as sending them.

Remember the days when you received letters in your actual mailbox (not your inbox)?  The real pony express of stamps and envelopes? Well if you are a fan of that, you are going to love this as much as I do.  The most unique postal finding since the self adhesive envelope… the World’s Smallest Post Service by by Leaf Cutter Designs.  Talk about making a huge statement in a tiny package!

or just because it is Cool!

It may seem a little gimmicky at first but if you are looking to grab someone’s attention, sometimes smaller is better.  I would be excited to open this regardless of what it has to say (unless it came from a bill collector but the packaging would still make me smile!).  Think of all of the creative ways to use this tiny post as Save the Dates, Rehearsal Dinner Invites or Wedding Party Inclusions.  It would make a pretty fabulous proposal as well if you used a filler ring.

Test is out and put a smile on someone’s face.  Remember the last time you received a letter in the mail just because someone was thinking of you?

As much as I love thinking outside of the box, I am also a fan of keeping everything user friendly.  This brings me to table numbers…  Imagine being a guest and having to locate your table assignment which is identified solely by a Kanji symbol or simply a photograph of the couple.  Although I think those are lovely ideas, there still needs to be an easy way for your guests to quickly identify where their seats are.  I mean, we all like a good scavenger hunt but not when it comes to getting friends and family seated at your wedding.

It seems as if the actual table NUMBER has taken a back seat to more creative alternatives.  So, today I wanted to bring back the NUMBER.  Just because it is a sole numeral does not mean it can’t be creative.

These are some of my current favorites…

More Notes on Numbers:

1. Take the number into account when designing your centerpieces.  With all of the time spent designing, it would be a shame to just toss a number into the mix.

2. If you are using paper, get a holder.  Most hotels do offer stands but they rarely compliment any aesthetic.

3. Make sure all of the table numbers are facing towards the entrance of the room.

One of the wonderful ladies at the office sent this to me and I ADORE it.  Soiree By Design crafted these fabulous reminder/instruction cards for all of the men in the wedding party.  What better way for your man to get his guys on the ball.  So what if it throws you under the bus?

We love Mr. Boddington’s Studio over here at LBE.   So, just imagine our excitement in learning that Mr. Boddington has a nephew and he can be found at thePaperless Post!

For those of you not familiar with Paperless Post, it is the most stylish way to send an invitation online.  If you are like me, there is nothing quite like opening a beautiful envelope to reveal the exquisite texture and design of an invitation.  Paperless Post is the next best thing!

This is in no way a suggestion for you to do away with the traditional “snail mail” wedding invitation, mind you.  I am simply LOVING the designer options when it comes to Informal Soirees, Dinner Parties, Showers and anything else that needs celebrating!  They even give us the opportunity to “open” the envelope.

These are some of our favorites from Mr. Boddington’s Nephew

I wonder if Mr. Boddington’s nephew has a first name?

We are not talking about old school wrapping paper that needs a good dusting…  This DIY project is sure to “date” your next gift.

All you need is kraft paper, a pencil and a single line date stamp.  Lightly use your pencil to create a guide.  The simpler patterns are the grid (drawn 1″ square guides), stripes (lines are 2″ apart), and the blooms (stamped on randomly).  Just one tip: use the index finger of your opposite hand to press the foot of the printy-dater to keep it in place when stamping.

This is a great wrap for your bridal party gifts or welcome bags.  It is also good to note that any stamp will work so the sky is the limit!

Thank you to Jeromina Juan of Paper, Plate and Plane for this great DIY idea!

Move over Google Maps, GPS and the old school Thomas Guide (am I dating myself here?)…  Time to get a little creative when giving directions.

Custom maps can function in many ways.  Create a map outlining where your relationship started to where you are now for your  Save the Date.  Design a map around your wedding city inclusive of all of your favorite places for guests to experience.  Hey, you could even create a treasure map for your scavenger hunt as a pre-wedding activity!  The options are abundant and completely customizable.

We are so happy to have our friend and bride-to-be Lindsay guest blog for us today . We received her sweet Save-the-Dates and knew we wanted to share them on the bustle blog. This DIY Save-the-Date project really sets the tone for their upcoming rustic summer wedding. We asked Lindsay to pen a quick blog to explain how she put this idea together….here it is!

When it comes to our wedding and the planning of our wedding, the more fun/coziness/DIY the better! Save-the-Dates are the first thing our guests are going to see, so I really wanted to have fun with it and capture a rustic feeling, since our wedding is taking place at a small family-owned winery in northern CA.  Dave and I also happen to live on a beautiful organic vegetable farm that truly epitomizes the rustic elegance that I have become obsessed with while planning!  We wanted to capture it and our personalities in our Save-the-Dates.

I knew I wanted a picture of the two of us, to use the farm’s tractor, and to make some sort of banner.  It was November, so the fall colors of the East Coast were showing in all their glory – perfect timing! (I should mention that Dave is a photographer, and has graphic design skills, so this whole project coming to life is really thanks to him)

We decided to really commit to the whole farm thing.  So, I printed out my banner that read, “GETTIN’ HITCHED!” and hung each letter on twine, and Dave drove the tractor to the perfect spot on the driveway.  He set up his camera while I hung the banner on the back of the tractor.  We jumped into it, cowboy hat and camera remote in hand and started snapping away!

We had previously thought of getting postcards to send as STDs, so we decided to print the back of the picture to look similar.  We added a personal message on the left, and threw in some fun details, such as a beloved Beatles quote (“all you need is love”), graphics on the right that appeared to be stamps, but had our wedding date details hidden in them.  We also incorporated our wedding colors, pink and grey, in the graphics.

We printed them through a great website called mpix.com.  Lucky for me, Dave is super multi-talented and was able to create something amazing, but the website has lots of templates and ideas to create all kinds of things, including Save-the-Dates, invitations, photo books, prints, frames, etc.  They also have a blog with lots of great ideas!

We have had such great response from our guests, which makes us feel so happy.  We want everyone to feel a part of our day to enjoy all the special details that we find so much fun and joy in, and our Save the Date cards were the perfect way to set the tone.

Thank you Lindsay for sharing this adorable DIY project with our readers!
