Erica and Creed are both anesthesiologists with a passion for the coast and a love for the great outdoors.  When they aren’t in their scrubs (which is rare), they are immersed in some sort of activity or excursion.  When it came to their wedding, there was no doubt that they would select a location with an ocean view and they did just that.   It took one visit to La Valencia and they were decided.

I am excited to share the beautiful images of their day.  Thank you Jennifer Dery Photography!

Adorations Botanical Artistry worked with Erica and Creed to design the overall floral decor that worked in the yummy elements of succulents, driftwood, dahlias and roses.  There were many other intricate elements worked into every piece they designed.  LaVonne and her team truly captured the essence of the couple from the bouquets to the ceremony and the reception.

The ceremony aisle was lined with driftwood, blooms and stones leading up to an ornate botanical structure framing the couple.   Creed’s brother had his guitar on hand for a special song performed by a close friend.  It added such a great personal touch to the ceremony and even captured a few laughs!

Guests entered the ballroom to find their succulent escort card that also functioned as the guest favor as well as the entree indicator.  Table numbers were suspended from the table landscape and surrounded by candlelight.  I actually planted my succulent and it is happy and healthy in my backyard.

Erica and Creed wanted to treat their guests not only with a wedding cake, but also mini cupcakes.  Sweet Cheeks Baking Company provided all of the decadent desserts and Adorations designed the table.  We had a caricature artist on hand sketching black and white images of guests.  The reverse side of their caricature design functioned as the guest signing with personal questions about the bride and groom.  At the end of the evening, the newlyweds left with sketches of each of their guests along with their stories, advice and predictions.  It will be fun to read those five years from now!

Concepts Event Design created the custom seamless dance floor and Jerry Beck of Beck’s Entertainment kept everyone on it throughout the evening.

Thank you Erica and Creed for trusting LBE with your wedding day.  It was such a pleasure working with you and your families!

Iris and Frank were married at Scripps Seaside Forum this past September.  I had the privilege of working with them for the year leading up to their wedding.  From the very beginning, we knew we were designing an event that would incorporate both Iris’s modern whimsy AND Frank’s traditional sophistication.  Beyond a beautiful wedding, Frank and Iris wanted to create a warm atmosphere that would share who they are with their friends and family.  From the bold colors and spherical shapes to the customized puzzle and sprinkles cupcakes, their wedding was as playful as it was elegant.  Congratulations Frank and Iris!

We hope you enjoy the snapshot of their day!

Thank you to Tim Otto Photography for the images.

One of the main reasons Frank and Iris selected Scripps Seaside Forum as their venue was for the  panoramic views which we did not want to obstruct with a traditional altar.  Rather, Jennifer Cole Florals created a white petal path including the circle altar of petals.  Large silver lanterns framed the aisle and were accented with yellow and white pomander balls.  The bride and groom personalized the content of their ceremony booklet which guests took home.

The custom dance floor took center stage with guest tables surrounding it.  Midnight blue Isabella lines draped each of the tables in a decadent rosette appliqué.  The room itself was flanked in a sheer white backdrop allowing the complimentary colors to pop.

Guests were treated to a “Peach Whellini” during the reception followed by a Sprinkle’s cupcake with a carton of milk.  Their patterned cake was topped with a pair of penguins.  You would have had to have been a guest to understand why but Iris did share the story!

As the sun went down, the room took on an entirely new atmosphere as each of the centerpieces glowed with a soft blue light.  Accent lighting softened the room what the custom capiz shell chandelier adorned the patio.  Come the end of the evening, Frank and Iris were swept away in a vintage 1956 Rolls Royce.  A perfect end to a perfect day!

“Dear Liz,

Thank you so much for making our dream wedding come true!  The day was amazing, unforgettable and so smooth.  We both had an incredible time and still reminisce about all of the little details.  Our family and friends had endless compliments, many of which were that it was the most beautiful wedding they had been to.  It was truly a spectacular day!  We really enjoyed working with you all the way through.  You were always cheerful and made us laugh while reassuring us that everything would come together…  and it did!  Thank you for being patient with us.  I’m so happy we were both involved in the planning because it was an experience all on it’s own.  It definitely would not have been so enjoyable if we had not worked with you.  Thank You!

Love, Iris and Frank”

This past September, Daphne and Aaron were married at a Private Estate in Rancho Santa Fe.  We worked with a natural palette of rich berry, plum and leafy green to compliment the home.  Daphne was just finishing her degree in interior design so we all worked together to create this intimate wedding.  We took the garden aesthetic of the house and embraced it.  Guests were all shuttled to the front gate and welcomed into a private evening full of friends, family, laughter and FUN.

Love the Images?  Love Justin Lee Photography.

Congratulations Daphne and Aaron!!!

Right before summer came to a close, we captured the final days on the beach for this style shoot.  We worked with Paula of Rae Florae and Suzanne of She Wanders Photography to pull this serene beach wedding together.  The shoot was recently featured on The Bridal Suite with narration from Rae Florae who will also guide us through the inspiration.

“Authenticity becomes our desire to reveal the true beauty of the season, of the ocean, and our natural world as it moves. How does it feel to stand in the sand at dusk and know that the most beautiful day of your life is happening? When Suzanne Hansen of She Wanders captures an image her desire is for it to be the most authentic capture, an image that represents the beauty of life as it is. In this instance the image is the beauty of changing tides and temperatures as we see it in our Southern California backyard…

Dark wood Descanso tables and benches flanked by wicker armchairs…
Cornflower blue linen drapes naturally under burlap placemats…
Petite mossy green spoons for seaweed salad…
Playful sea kelp placecards by a local artist…

Seasons from summer to fall to winter change in many ways, but one favorite is the color of the water into a palette of olive indigo sea blue brown. Paula Rae of Rae Florae is a master of color blending within her world of flowers- incorporating shades of warm apricot, touches of breezy pink and fluffy beige within the obvious blues, greens, and browns… from kelp and barnacles to sun bleached starfish and sandollars and every colorful orange shimmering shell in between. The mixed hues wrap themselves around you like a blanket ushering in warm nights while we remember just yesterday wearing tank tops and running in the surf.

Textured blue sea glass and draping succulents and shells…
Bloomed out native Eucalyptus pods and dried mottled blue hydrangea…
Pointed okra sliced and dried to contrast the soft ruffly grey dusty miller leaves…
Pure white fragrant lilies and garden roses are so pretty when combined with the woody seed pods and tangled wooden lanterns…
Pampas grass, tiki torches and cabanas to watch the sunset, catching those last fading rays while you can.

To be on the ocean, barefoot and running is the way we want to experience it. Our fresh, young models are art students who each contributed to the creations of the day- from their hair pieces to the stationery, they represent the generation of DIY crafters with amazing skill and fun ideas. Megan wears a fun tea-length dress designed by Adele Wechsler, from her ECO Couture line; while the others wear dresses of their own choosing.

The transition from summer to fall, the fading light and richening of the senses..
Why not have one last hurrah- pull out the unicorn pinata and wish upon a star that summer’s romance would last, take a swing at the candy inside and hope this years pumpkin pie will be as sweet.” –Paula Rae

If you like what Paula has to say, keep your eyes peeled.  She will be guest blogging on the Bustle Blog in the near future!

The third and final day of Rock and Romance.  Thank you for continuing to follow along with Ana and Erik’s wedding.  There were just too many details for a single post!

The Reception…

When it came time for dinner, we softened the the palette and added more sparkle.  We worked with a variety of table shapes to add a little depth and moderated all of the overhead lighting to a blush pink.  I am such a linen girl at heart and I loved creating three unique tablescapes with Ana.  Each of which was draped with a distinct luxurious linen and adorned with different accent pieces and settings.  Happiness!

Brightly Designed created the Swarovski crystal table numbers, the place cards and the array of individual menus.  Isari Flower Studio blended lush textures and contemporary vessels to capture the look Ana and Erik wanted to create.  The stunning crystal backdrop was designed and produced by Concepts Event Design.

Guests had the pleasure of spending the entire evening with Wayne Foster Entertainment.  If you look closely, you will see the custom Swarovski crystal piano.  Amazing!  Dancing would not be complete without a custom monogramed round dance floor by Platinum Pro.

The back bars were all embellished with candlelight and framed quotes that the couple selected.

Te quiero‘    ‘The best thing about me is you‘    ‘You’re nothing short of my everything‘   ‘Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be

Guests were invited to share in a tequila shot for the best man’s toast.  As our tequila girls made their way around the room, we were treated to some authentic mariachi.

Ana and her her bridesmaids are fashionistas in their own right so it was only appropriate that they have party dresses.  The bridesmaids went from a blush pink to a fabulous platinum.  Ana went from her stunning Inez di Santo gown to a sassy party dress.

Sweet Cheek Baking Company created the decadent cake.  It sat upon a Swarovski crystal stand from Raise the Cake.  Ana and Erik cut their cake in the center of the dance floor with all of their friends and family surrounding them.

Once the bouquet was tossed, the party moved to the eleventh floor’s Elevation where Ana and Erik could share San Diego’s Evening Skyline.  Rumor has it that this party also saw the sunrise…

Cheers to Ana and Erik!  We wish you a lifetime of love, happiness and everything wonderful this world has to offer.  It was a genuine delight working with you.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!

An enormous thank you to all of the wedding and event professionals that brought this wedding together.

Ana and Erik loved the idea of having their wedding ceremony on an urban rooftop overlooking the beautiful San Diego skyline.  Of course, it was of the utmost importance for it to be soft, lush and romantic.  Ana described wanting to feel as if the flowers were “cloud like” and Isari Flower Studio did just that.

Brightly Designed created all of the stationery pieces from the invitations and day of pieces to all of the signature graphics.  Included in that was Ana and Erik’s signature “B” that gracefully made its mark on the wedding day (including the hand crystal work on the ceremonial luminary).  The aisle runner was designed with blush peonies and a Swarovski crystal embellished “B.”

The diamond white custom stage covering and staircase was designed and executed by Concepts Event Design.  The entire edge was lined in crystal beading.  Gorgeous!

The entire layout of the ceremony space came from an Asscher cut diamond.  Chiavari chairs were covered with white Diana covers with crystal embellishments from Wildflower Linens.  The oversized white leather benches added the perfect  urban framework to this romanic ceremony.

Guests were greeted with a glass of champagne.  Each of the blush flutes had a 4 carat sugar diamond at the base.

Soft pinks and grays may have adorned the ceremony but it was all silver and fuchsia for cocktails.  We kicked it up a notch for the start of the celebratory evening.  Diamond embellished rounded booths framed each of the oversized windows.  Pops of fuchsia were infused throughout.

The mood was set with a latin vibe thanks to Wayne Foster Entertainment.  What better way to enjoy a decadent sushi station, petite lamb chops,  artisan breads, imported cheeses and signature cocktails?

The party has just begun…  We will be sharing the dinner, dancing and after party soon!

Thank you again Luna Photo!

This week we are Smitten with Concepts Event Design.  Husband and wife, Federico and Haydee own and operate this full service design company.  From fine linens to custom furniture and lighting, Concepts will flawlessly execute your vision with style and professionalism.  Team Concepts is always ready to go above above for their clients and colleagues which is just another reason why we are smitten with them!

What is your favorite part of the industry?

We definitely enjoy the décor aspect of it.  We admire couples that individualize their settings and consider the design aspect of their wedding day.  Seeing the lights against the glimmer of crystal and florals is always amazing.  Federico is always inspired by classic architecture and modern design, and seeing his vision sketched out, built, then implemented is wonderful.

What is one piece of advice you would give a bride?

Hire a designer, coordinator, or other industry professional.  New couples tend to underestimate the hours of work it takes to organize and manage such an event.  Financially, everyone is on a budget, so plan on a smaller intimate wedding if you budget is also small and intimate

What are some of the trends you see for 2011?

We will always strive for innovation.  We would like to see couples challenge their concepts and not be afraid to be too elegant, too modern, too shabby, or too fashion forward.

Jessica and Derek were such a wonderful couple to work with.  They did a tremendous job of blending their fabulous style with culture and traditions throughout the entire event.  It was definitely a celebration that none of the guests will soon forget!!!

We wanted to share this special day through Jessica and Derek’s eyes.  They took some time to tell us about the details below.

What was the most unforgettable moment of your wedding day?

My cousin Eddie’s amazing speech. We grew up together, and since birth we have been next door neighbors. Once we left the nest, we have not been able to see each other as often as we would like. His speech was so thoughtful and touching, it just blew me away. Also, almost knocking down the unity candle in Church!!

What is the best piece of advice you received?

It was from you, letting me know I should reconsider a videographer. Worth, every, penny! I’m so happy I listened to you! : ) Joe Park Cinematography

Did you incorporate any family traditions into your wedding day?

Yes! my mother was Mexican. So, the entire Cocktail Hour was a Mexican Fiesta! With my cousin’s Mariachi Band, a double bar stocked with Raspberry and Lime Margaritas, Coronas and other Mexican Beers. All of the hors d’Oeuvres were traditional Mexican items with a fresh, gourmet twist.

What was the overall look and feel of your wedding?

Mixture of Contemporary Clean Style, with splashes of flashy jewel tones.

What’s the best party about being a newlywed?

Using all our new gifts! LOL! Being a team now, being able to focus on our future goals and plans together.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Shebby!!!

Thank you to ALL of the AMAZING vendors for your talent, creativity and hard work.

Their roots may be in Texas and Louisiana but we captured their hearts in San Diego.  Aimee and Cody rented a private beach residence for an entire week to celebrate with their family and friends.  Most of whom have never been to Southern California.  It all led up to their wedding atop a bluff in La Jolla surrounded by sunshine and the Pacific Ocean.

Aimee and Cody drew inspiration from the Southern California Sunsets and incorporated rich hues of turquoise, aqua, rust and pumpkin into their wedding decor. Concept Event Design used their reclaimed wood benches (we will post the pictures when we get them) to create the intimate ceremony setting.  Justin Lee of Justin Lee Photography did an amazing job of capturing the essence of Aimee and Cody.  Deborah with Flower Hill designed the beautiful blooms.  The yummy yummy cake was created by Sweet Cheeks Baking Company.

Thank you Aimee and Cody for letting us be part of your celebration.
