Erica and Creed are both anesthesiologists with a passion for the coast and a love for the great outdoors.  When they aren’t in their scrubs (which is rare), they are immersed in some sort of activity or excursion.  When it came to their wedding, there was no doubt that they would select a location with an ocean view and they did just that.   It took one visit to La Valencia and they were decided.

I am excited to share the beautiful images of their day.  Thank you Jennifer Dery Photography!

Adorations Botanical Artistry worked with Erica and Creed to design the overall floral decor that worked in the yummy elements of succulents, driftwood, dahlias and roses.  There were many other intricate elements worked into every piece they designed.  LaVonne and her team truly captured the essence of the couple from the bouquets to the ceremony and the reception.

The ceremony aisle was lined with driftwood, blooms and stones leading up to an ornate botanical structure framing the couple.   Creed’s brother had his guitar on hand for a special song performed by a close friend.  It added such a great personal touch to the ceremony and even captured a few laughs!

Guests entered the ballroom to find their succulent escort card that also functioned as the guest favor as well as the entree indicator.  Table numbers were suspended from the table landscape and surrounded by candlelight.  I actually planted my succulent and it is happy and healthy in my backyard.

Erica and Creed wanted to treat their guests not only with a wedding cake, but also mini cupcakes.  Sweet Cheeks Baking Company provided all of the decadent desserts and Adorations designed the table.  We had a caricature artist on hand sketching black and white images of guests.  The reverse side of their caricature design functioned as the guest signing with personal questions about the bride and groom.  At the end of the evening, the newlyweds left with sketches of each of their guests along with their stories, advice and predictions.  It will be fun to read those five years from now!

Concepts Event Design created the custom seamless dance floor and Jerry Beck of Beck’s Entertainment kept everyone on it throughout the evening.

Thank you Erica and Creed for trusting LBE with your wedding day.  It was such a pleasure working with you and your families!

Iris and Frank were married at Scripps Seaside Forum this past September.  I had the privilege of working with them for the year leading up to their wedding.  From the very beginning, we knew we were designing an event that would incorporate both Iris’s modern whimsy AND Frank’s traditional sophistication.  Beyond a beautiful wedding, Frank and Iris wanted to create a warm atmosphere that would share who they are with their friends and family.  From the bold colors and spherical shapes to the customized puzzle and sprinkles cupcakes, their wedding was as playful as it was elegant.  Congratulations Frank and Iris!

We hope you enjoy the snapshot of their day!

Thank you to Tim Otto Photography for the images.

One of the main reasons Frank and Iris selected Scripps Seaside Forum as their venue was for the  panoramic views which we did not want to obstruct with a traditional altar.  Rather, Jennifer Cole Florals created a white petal path including the circle altar of petals.  Large silver lanterns framed the aisle and were accented with yellow and white pomander balls.  The bride and groom personalized the content of their ceremony booklet which guests took home.

The custom dance floor took center stage with guest tables surrounding it.  Midnight blue Isabella lines draped each of the tables in a decadent rosette appliqué.  The room itself was flanked in a sheer white backdrop allowing the complimentary colors to pop.

Guests were treated to a “Peach Whellini” during the reception followed by a Sprinkle’s cupcake with a carton of milk.  Their patterned cake was topped with a pair of penguins.  You would have had to have been a guest to understand why but Iris did share the story!

As the sun went down, the room took on an entirely new atmosphere as each of the centerpieces glowed with a soft blue light.  Accent lighting softened the room what the custom capiz shell chandelier adorned the patio.  Come the end of the evening, Frank and Iris were swept away in a vintage 1956 Rolls Royce.  A perfect end to a perfect day!

“Dear Liz,

Thank you so much for making our dream wedding come true!  The day was amazing, unforgettable and so smooth.  We both had an incredible time and still reminisce about all of the little details.  Our family and friends had endless compliments, many of which were that it was the most beautiful wedding they had been to.  It was truly a spectacular day!  We really enjoyed working with you all the way through.  You were always cheerful and made us laugh while reassuring us that everything would come together…  and it did!  Thank you for being patient with us.  I’m so happy we were both involved in the planning because it was an experience all on it’s own.  It definitely would not have been so enjoyable if we had not worked with you.  Thank You!

Love, Iris and Frank”

Congratulations to our friends at Sweet Cheeks Baking Company for their VICTORY on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars!!!  Krista and Katrina baked their hearts out and we are so proud of them!

The Challenges were all based around one of my favorite Southern California events, Pageant of the Masters.

In case you have not had the opportunity to meet this all girl team, here is their Cheeky Photo…
Way to go Team Cheeks!

Beth and Brian were married in March on the USD Campus at the beloved Founder’s Chapter.  The distinguished setting was ideal for this stylish bride and her dapper groom.  We are so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with Beth, Brian and their loving families in tying up all of the details for their wedding.

We would like to offer our condolences to Beth and Brian’s family.  Brian’s mother, Bonnie, passed away a few short weeks after the wedding.

Beth and Brian wanted to share a little about their wedding in their own words.

Our wedding incorporated as much of “us” as we could.  We chose The Founders Chapel at University of San Diego for it’s classic, timeless ambiance and The Darlington House in La Jolla for it’s beautiful rose garden patio.

Our siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles all had a part and even our niece and nephew were the ring bearer and flower girl.  My aunt sang the ceremony while my cousin played the piano. Brian’s close friends played music at our cocktail hour and even wrote a special song dedicated to us.  We also had a photobooth towards the end of the night to capture some of the funny moments and highlights.

Our family and friends are what made our wedding day so special. Most everyone came from either the Bay area or Kansas City.  Quite an interesting mix of people but everyone shared a few commonalities: dancing, drinking and fun!

My favorite moment would have to be the minute the church doors opened to expose all of our friends and family and looking down the aisle to see the most amazing, handsome man smiling at me — my husband.  It was such an incredible moment when I realized that each and every person was there for us. I simply cherish that moment and it was a feeling I will never forget.

We were surprised with a 1929 Franklin ride from the church to the reception.  It was a beautiful drive with the sun setting and sharing a romantic champagne toast and alone time with my new hubby.

We used a tent to give the patio a cozy feel with pewter linens and a bit of soft pink, ivory and green accent colors in our flowers.  Elegant and classy would be the two words I would use to describe our extraordinary day.

I loved the colorful candy table that shared our love for sugar!  My most fun detail would be our 3d videographers (and friends — Fernie and Jason) filming our wedding in 3D!

I valued most having the input and wisdom from my wonderful mother in law and mother. I’d like to pay a small tribute and express my gratitude for Brian’s mom.  She passed away a few weeks after the wedding unexpectedly. She was such a wonderful part of the wedding and we are so thankful that she was such a big part of the day. Bonnie lived her life for her husband, children, and grandchildren and her gracious, loving spirit was truly an inspiration. I hope and pray that one day I can I be half the woman she was.

Given we just experienced a great loss in our family, my advice would be to not let one moment go by without telling your loved ones how much you love and appreciate them.  Time passes by too quickly and there are not a lot of opportunities in life where you get all of the people together to celebrate such a joyous occasion.

CONGRATULATIONS Mr. and Mrs. Brian Powers!

Congratulations to Sarah and Scott,  married at Estancia Hotel and Spa in La Jolla.  I just can’t say enough about the happiness that this couple exudes and it was infectious on their wedding day.  Amidst a torrential rain storm, the sun sun came out for these two on their wedding day!  It was perfect…

I asked Sarah and Scott to share a little about their day with us.

Enjoy!

The look for our wedding was romantic, classic and BEAUTIFUL!!! We had all ivory and blush flowers with greenery mixed in that were absolutely gorgeous. We used fairly neutral colors in the overall decor and really let the love and enjoyment of the evening take the center stage. Even though the decor was not over the top, both the ceremony and reception ballrooms were absolutely stunning. They were perfect!

We are very close with our families and every single person in our immediate family was a part of our wedding. Each of them walked down the aisle and our siblings stood up with us while we were married. We each had our friends fly in from literally all over the country to share with us in our special day. Scott and I made sure to save enough time before all of the wedding festivities began to spend time with all of our friends and family, especially our bridal party, to let them know how much we loved them and appreciated all of the love and support we’ve gotten from them!

Both our ceremony and reception were very low stress. We had a string quartet playing for the ceremony and cocktail hour. Our Reverend was phenomenal! He used humor and the perfect selection of readings to describe us and our relationship. He kept our guests hanging on his every word and got us in and out in the perfect amount of time.

Scott’s most unforgettable moment was the ceremony. It was such a special and important moment for him, to make our marriage official, and it was by far his favorite part of the day!!  Our ceremony definitely set the tone for our reception which was also incredibly fun!! Everyone loved every single thing about our wedding and thought it really exemplified us as people and as a couple. We could not have asked for anything more.

For me, the most unforgettable moment was when Scott and I got to see the reception room by ourselves before anyone else had gone in. Scott got to see his surprise grooms cake and we were able to take in each and every beautiful detail of the ballroom and really appreciate it before all of guests were there. Our DJ was already set up so we had an impromptu dance party with just the two of us on the dance floor!! We loved it!! It was really special for us to just take that second to breathe and enjoy each other and see how all of our hard work had paid off.

Scott’s surprise Red Wings logo cake was definitely a favorite!! It looked incredible and was delicious!! We had a marble slab ice cream station which was also delicious and so fun. All of guests loved it!! A favorite of everyones across the board was the photo booth we had at the reception. It was so fun for both us and our guests and was the perfect guest book for us to look back on and laugh!

If I could give a piece of advice to brides to be, it would be to make sure it’s YOUR day! Don’t try to please anyone else or incorporate anything that we didn’t want.  We both really took that to heart and it definitely helped us plan our day and make it perfect.  Also, be mindful of how many small details you leave until the day before the wedding, they add up! Start chipping away at anything that you can get done, when you are able to get it done, even if it seems ridiculously early.

Most importantly, enjoy your day!!!!! Don’t let anything stress you out on the day of, at that point, the hard part is already done! I remember every single detail of our wedding day and I would not change one thing. It was perfect.

As for our honeymoon, we just got back from a cruise in the Caribbean with my entire family. It was absolutely lovely and a wonderful escape after the wedding, but definitely NOT a honeymoon! We’re really hoping and planning to get to Greece this summer and enjoy the beauty of the Greek Isles!!!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Symons!!!

This past September, Daphne and Aaron were married at a Private Estate in Rancho Santa Fe.  We worked with a natural palette of rich berry, plum and leafy green to compliment the home.  Daphne was just finishing her degree in interior design so we all worked together to create this intimate wedding.  We took the garden aesthetic of the house and embraced it.  Guests were all shuttled to the front gate and welcomed into a private evening full of friends, family, laughter and FUN.

Love the Images?  Love Justin Lee Photography.

Congratulations Daphne and Aaron!!!

The third and final day of Rock and Romance.  Thank you for continuing to follow along with Ana and Erik’s wedding.  There were just too many details for a single post!

The Reception…

When it came time for dinner, we softened the the palette and added more sparkle.  We worked with a variety of table shapes to add a little depth and moderated all of the overhead lighting to a blush pink.  I am such a linen girl at heart and I loved creating three unique tablescapes with Ana.  Each of which was draped with a distinct luxurious linen and adorned with different accent pieces and settings.  Happiness!

Brightly Designed created the Swarovski crystal table numbers, the place cards and the array of individual menus.  Isari Flower Studio blended lush textures and contemporary vessels to capture the look Ana and Erik wanted to create.  The stunning crystal backdrop was designed and produced by Concepts Event Design.

Guests had the pleasure of spending the entire evening with Wayne Foster Entertainment.  If you look closely, you will see the custom Swarovski crystal piano.  Amazing!  Dancing would not be complete without a custom monogramed round dance floor by Platinum Pro.

The back bars were all embellished with candlelight and framed quotes that the couple selected.

Te quiero‘    ‘The best thing about me is you‘    ‘You’re nothing short of my everything‘   ‘Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be

Guests were invited to share in a tequila shot for the best man’s toast.  As our tequila girls made their way around the room, we were treated to some authentic mariachi.

Ana and her her bridesmaids are fashionistas in their own right so it was only appropriate that they have party dresses.  The bridesmaids went from a blush pink to a fabulous platinum.  Ana went from her stunning Inez di Santo gown to a sassy party dress.

Sweet Cheek Baking Company created the decadent cake.  It sat upon a Swarovski crystal stand from Raise the Cake.  Ana and Erik cut their cake in the center of the dance floor with all of their friends and family surrounding them.

Once the bouquet was tossed, the party moved to the eleventh floor’s Elevation where Ana and Erik could share San Diego’s Evening Skyline.  Rumor has it that this party also saw the sunrise…

Cheers to Ana and Erik!  We wish you a lifetime of love, happiness and everything wonderful this world has to offer.  It was a genuine delight working with you.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!

An enormous thank you to all of the wedding and event professionals that brought this wedding together.

In our quest to find cake perfection, we have found Sweet Cheeks Baking Company.  Oh how we love thee…  Not only do they create edible art that is beyond yummy, but it is made with all sorts of wholesome ingredients.  Have an idea?  Go ahead and throw it past Team Sweet Cheeks.  They love a challenge and always surpass expectations!

We are smitten with Sweet Cheeks Baking Company

What is your favorite part of the industry?

Sweet Cheeks Baking Co. is all about service and hospitality, catering to the custom interests & needs of our clients, so we LOVE when people bring us super cool or unique themes/ideas/requests.  We love a challenge as a team and find that challenge is what keeps us improving in this industry all the time!

If you weren’t in the event industry, what would you be doing?

I would be studying whales and marine mammals or learning to train at Sea World…until I had to get a paying job again.

Where do you draw your inspiration?  Are their specific resources?

Are you kidding?  Inspiration is ALL OVER THE PLACE for cake!  The more you open your eyes, the more you see as opportunity.   Today I was wearing this totally rad pair of leggings with crazy colorful paisley and giant floral patterns all over a sky-design background.  I looked in the mirror in the middle of the luncheon I was attending and cracked up…these would be the most beautiful cake design for someone with the right imagination like mine.

What is one piece of advice you would give a bride?

Come with ideas and with a vision as best you can.  This is the most special dessert of your life.  You and the cake are the two art pieces at the wedding that everyone wants to see.  If it’s super cool, everyone has tons of fun photographing it.  If it’s boring or tasteless, you may as well opt instead for a dessert buffet and make them delicious.

What are some of the trends you see for 2011?

We’ve been doing lots of dessert buffets.  Also, dietary restrictions are all the rage…gluten-free cakes, etc.   There are issues with too many combinations:  our most restrictive was a gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan who wanted a gorgeous wedding cake.  Hmm, we do love a challenge…did I say that?
